Getting Started with StrategyRadar.ai
Learn how to use StrategyRadar.ai to visualize and optimize your AI development strategy
StrategyRadar.ai is a visual tool to help teams define, communicate, and optimize their AI adoption strategy across the software development lifecycle.
#What is StrategyRadar?
StrategyRadar is a visualization tool that helps you map your AI automation strategy across the software development lifecycle. It helps you:
- Visualize AI automation levels (1-5) across the 7 phases of software development
- Select specific AI behavior groups supported by real tools (Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, etc.)
- Identify gaps or over-reliance on automation in your development process
- Communicate your strategy clearly to stakeholders and team members
- Plan your AI adoption roadmap with concrete, actionable steps
- Export and share your strategy via Markdown, PNG, or shareable URLs
#The 7 Phases of Software Development
Planning Strategic planning, requirements gathering, and project scoping
Analysis Requirements analysis, feasibility studies, and technical specifications
Design Architecture design, system design, and interface design
Implementation Code development, component building, and integration
Testing Unit testing, integration testing, and quality assurance
Deployment CI/CD, infrastructure provisioning, and release management
Maintenance Monitoring, bug fixes, updates, and ongoing support
#AI Control Levels (1-5)
Level 1 - No Automation Traditional manual workflow with no AI assistance
Level 2 - AI as Assistant AI provides suggestions and completions that humans review and approve
Level 3 - AI as Collaborator AI generates substantial work that humans refine and validate
Level 4 - AI as Executor AI handles most tasks autonomously with human oversight and intervention when needed
Level 5 - Full Automation AI operates independently with humans setting goals and reviewing outcomes
#Two Configuration Modes
#Manual Mode (Sliders)
Quickly configure your strategy by setting AI automation levels (1-5) for each development phase using sliders. Perfect for getting a high-level overview or trying different presets.
#Wizard Mode (Guided Selection)
Step through each phase and select specific AI behavior groups (like “Code Generation”, “Test Automation”, etc.). Each behavior group is supported by multiple tools and has a defined AI control level.
Presets: Startup MVP, Enterprise, and Innovation Lab are predefined configurations that set different AI levels across phases based on common organizational contexts.
#How to Use This Tool
#Manual Mode Workflow
- Adjust sliders to set AI automation levels (1-5) for each of the 7 development phases
- Watch the radar chart update in real-time as you configure your strategy
- Load presets (Startup MVP, Enterprise, Innovation Lab) to see example configurations
- Click “see full strategy automatically” to view detailed recommendations based on your levels
#Wizard Mode Workflow
- Click “Customize My Strategy” or “Use Wizard” to enter guided mode
- Step through each phase (Planning → Analysis → Design → … → Maintenance)
- Select specific behavior groups for each phase (e.g., “Code Generation”, “Automated Testing”)
- See tool support - each behavior group shows which tools support it
- Finish and export your complete, granular AI strategy
#Export & Share Your Strategy
- Export Markdown - Download a structured .md file perfect for sharing with AI agents or documenting your strategy
- Export PNG - Save the radar chart as an image for presentations or documentation
- Share URL - Get a shareable link with your complete strategy encoded in the URL
#Export Options Explained
#Markdown (for AI)
Downloads a well-structured Markdown file with your complete strategy, including:
- Strategy name and organization
- All selected behavior groups organized by phase and AI level
- Descriptions of each behavior group
Perfect for: Sharing with AI agents (Claude, ChatGPT, etc.) to generate implementation plans, documentation, or tooling recommendations.
#PNG (radar only)
Saves the radar chart as a high-quality PNG image for presentations, reports, or documentation.
#Share URL
Generates a shareable URL with your complete strategy encoded as numeric behavior group IDs. The URL is compact and easy to share via email, Slack, or any communication tool. Anyone with the link can view your exact strategy configuration.
#Best Practices
#Different levels for different phases
Not all phases need the same level of AI automation. Testing might benefit from high automation (level 5), while architecture design may need more human control (level 3-4) to ensure strategic decisions align with business goals.
#Balance is key
A strategy that’s all level 1 (no AI) or all level 5 (autopilot) is rarely optimal. Find the right mix for your team’s capabilities, risk tolerance, and organizational context.
#Provide proper context to AI
AI agents need structured context to generate high-quality code. Learn about the four types of context (Business, Functional, Technical Strategy, and Technical Context) in Understanding Context for AI-Assisted Development.
#Use task-driven and spec-driven workflows
Avoid the “vibe coding” trap by breaking work into well-defined tasks and providing AI with comprehensive specifications. Learn more in Task-Driven and Spec-Driven Development.
#Iterate and refine
Your strategy will evolve as your team’s AI skills improve and tools mature. Start with conservative levels and increase automation as you build confidence. Revisit quarterly.
#Align with your team
Use this tool as a conversation starter. Share your radar with the team and discuss where you agree and where you need to align. Export to Markdown and share with stakeholders.
#Use behavior groups for granularity
Wizard mode lets you select specific AI capabilities (behavior groups) rather than just setting abstract levels. This gives you fine-grained control and helps identify exactly which tools you need.
